You will learn of the nearby Camp Bird Mine,  the Atlas, the Humboldt, the Tomboy, the Mountain Top, the Smuggler Union, the Mickey Breen, as well as the many mines that Revenue Mines such as the Virginius, the Terrible, the Monarch, the Monogahela, the Wheel of Fortune and the Hector Mining Company in San Miguel Country which included the Memphis, Cimarron, and Bradley lodes.

You will also meet the following people who played an important role in the mining saga of the San Juans: Hubbard Reed, Superintendent of the Revenue Mines and his brothers David and Caleb;  A.E. Reynolds, over of the Revenue Mines and many mines throughout Colorado.;  Thomas Walsh, owner of the Camp Bird Mines; Otto Mears with whom Hubbard Reed fought a desperate battle for many years over the Canyon Creek toll road;  David Moffat, president of the Denver Rio Grande Railroad;  Lucius Nunn who introduced AC current to the mines and David Day, editor of the Solid Muldoon, who defended the miners and blasted the mine owners on every possible issue.

By means of 130 photographs, 24 maps and 16 historical facimilies you will move over 100 years back in time to view A.E. Reynolds and Hubbard Reed as they struggle and fight to wrest a fortune from the mines.  Their period of leadership was during the time when mines where booming.  By the time they had retired and passed on, the bonanza days of mining were over, but their story of the problems they sought to overcome and sometimes failed, is a record of mining at a time in history that is well-worth recording.
